Help identifying part think its shorted

Looking for a replacement but i dont know what this part is called and its hard to see the part number on it. It looks like theres another 1 directly below it but its a different number. Is it the same value or do i need this exact part? Can i get 1 off a donor if the numbers dont match?Think i have a cap shorted on the other side of the board not sure if its related to each other or its just low impedance. Thank you

Also you can see a solder ball on the side of the chip that i think its shorting. Caught it under the thermal imager

Think the part i cant see is AJZ002. This what i got under the thermal

The part you’ve highlighted in blue, assuming that’s the one with all the chips in it in the other images?, then that’s a MAX8969 . Tell me if that isn’t the IC with damage though as those two next to each other are different parts. (it’s hard to follow all your images)

Component highlighted in red isn’t a cap but rather, an inductor. It’s normal afair.

You shouldn’t be powering on the board at all (or using your thermal cam) when there is / possibility of shorts on the board  That being said, I think given the obvious damage, the IC is probably faulty

Lol thanks for checking it out. I powered it to check the back and spoted it real quick then inspected the part. The color i highlighted dont mean anything i just did it without thinking. I dont think its a max chip idk all i can see is 002 on the bottom. I think its the same bga as the 1 under it thats label ajz003 i think its ajz002 but it looks like half of it is damaged. Idk if its the sane chip just numbered like 001, 002 etc. Let me see if i can make it clearer.
Pic 1 is the bga with the solder ball on the back of the board right top circled blue and it looks like the same chip right under it thats label ajz003.
Pic 2 is directly on the other side where i think a short is but not sure. Is that the inductor? Circled red. I do have a donor. The chip looks the same just have different numbers on it. Would it be ok to pull it? I would prefer to get a replacement since it looks like it has to be reballed (might be out of my skill level) i cant find a replacement. I would try and learn how to reball it

Can pull the 1 from the donor it just has different numbers on it idk if its the same. Its in the same spot

its ALJ there not AJZ

ALJ → MAX8969EWL53
AJZ–> MAX8969EWL50

Oh thanks its hard to see i appreciate it. So is it the max ic? I see its different on my other board. Can i use the max ic inplace of these

WHAT max do you have? You have to stick with the same model(+ALJ) but not same batch(003/002/xxx)

No, they’rre differenct IC’s, the one you’ve highlighted here

is the Max IC I mentioned :+1:

The one you circled in red in the previous pic is an inductor and it’s fine, nothing wrong. Relates to a negative rail, hence why your measuring a short to ground.

Thiese are very simple step up converters, provided the pad pattern / pinout and of course specifications (emphasis on that last part) is the same and the package type etc, any is fine. Batch wouldn’t ordinarily be a concern

Youre right my donor says alj 023 so that would be ok to use? I just couldnt make out half of it and assume it was the same chip as the 1 below it. I would rather get a new 1 thats reballed already

If that’s what you donor is using, and it’s in the same place as on your patient, then that’s the IC you’d use

difference between the two @jkyoho listed are voltage (which is why you want to opt for the right one)

Thank you guys it definitely looks like a J
