PS5 | CFI-1215A | EDM-030 | Stuck In Safe Mode 99% Processing

Hello,

I have a CFI-1215A PS5 (EDM-030 board) here that won’t boot normally. It currently will immediately boot into Safe Mode upon power button press with a screen that says “Processing” and then a progress bar that usually begins around 75-84% and slowly climbs up to 99% where it will hang forever. The console will not ever escape past the 99% mark.

Things I have tried:

  1. Tried force booting into Safe Mode by pressing and holding power button for 2 beeps so I could use a reinstallation USB, but the console still boots into Safe Mode with the “Progressing” progress bar. I do not have access to any of the recovery options.

  2. Tried reading error codes using UART. UART’s error codes only relate to me forcefully powering off the console by holding the power button and other meaningless normal operations, but nothing to do with any actual faults with the console. I have tried clearing the old codes to get new ones, but nothing of suspect appears. Seems ok in terms of error codes.

  3. Tried modifying the NOR flash to make the console a digital only version, but the same “Processing” screen that can’t go past 99% happens. Have reflashed the original NOR back.

  4. Looked at powered board through thermal camera. All RAMs are getting warm but none of the SSDs appear to be getting warm (but the SSD Controller is slightly warm)

  5. Tried reflowing SSD controller, but it made no difference.

At this point, I don’t know if this is an SSD, SSD Controller, or RAM problem, but I have a feeling it’s one of those. How can I further isolate if this is an SSDs issue, an SSD controller, RAM, or something else entirely?

Thanks.

What is the whole UART code string?
