Xbox series x will not connect to the internet

Hi, I was wondering if you could help solve this issue I’m facing please?

My xbox series x was on wifi but it suddenly wouldn’t connect. It said that it had a wired network connection, but I did not have a network cable plugged in. I tried plugging a network cable in but that didn’t work. I followed various methods people suggested from similar faults, but they didn’t work. I factory reset the console and it is now stuck on the initial setup screen because it is not connected to the internet. The ethernet port is clean. I changed the wifi and network card for a new one but that didn’t work.

The only other thing I can find from other forums is the ethernet connectivity chip on the motherboard may need changing. Is this likely to be the fault? It looks like a pretty advanced job to change the chip, would I be better trying to change the motherboard or just give up? If I changed the motherboard, is it married up to any of the other parts?

It’s a shame because it’s only 2 years old and hardly used.

Thanks in advance.

My bet is on the Ethernet Chip RTL8111H. If this chip is bad, the Xbox detects a LAN connection without ethernet cable plugged in.

This would be a job for some one who has skills in micro soldering.

A Southbridge board swap will not work anymore, like it was in the start of the Xbox Series X, because the Flash chip on it contains now infos, which must be transfered to a replacement board. And this process is not easier than changing the Ethernet chip.

Here is a link to a youtube video, where I changed the Ethernet chip:

Hi Calvin, thanks very much for the helpful reply and a great video! I will try this out and see how it goes.

Thanks again!
