Disk not compatible

Good morning
I have a problem with a PS5. I updated it, but every time I put a disk in it tells me “disk not compatible”
I changed the ribbon and the read head, checked the fuses, everything seems ok. Anyone have an idea of the problem?
thanks in advance.

I normally would expect this error message if I swap a whole disc drive without paying attention on the married disc drive board and try to read Playstation Games. But in this case the update would stuck at the hardware check, as it detects a wrong disc drive board…

Would be interesting to know, if the NOR has the disc drive Bit set.

thank you calvin but how do I know? I have what I need to read it, but nothing to compare and I don’t know which line to look at. If I change with another NOR, from an identical console should it work?
THANKS

If you open the NOR dump in a hex editor and jump to adress 0x001C7011 there should be a 02 (BD) or 03 (digital).

001C7000: 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
001C7010: 22 02 01 01 00 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 00 00 99 00
001C7020: 00 04 44 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
001C7030: 00 00 00 07 07 07 07 00 89 00 01 00 00 00 00 00

hello calvin
Well I looked at my NOR and I have a 2 :(. I’m going to save it and try to delete it then rewrite it. If it’s still the same, I can try with another NOR that works and see if it works? Thanks

when I am at the level of 02 this is what I see in the description.

If there is a ‘02’ at 001C7011 the NOR is correct configed as disc version.
And it shouldn’t help, if another NOR dump is written back.

I was just curious. If there have been a ‘03’ it would indicate that the disc drive had been changed and explained why the disc drive is not playing games but the update was going through without problems.

I guess that the disc drive takes disc normally, spin them up, start reading them an then stops and outputs the error.
What is happening if you put in a DVD or a Bluray Movie? Does it start Music/Movie?

Good evening
yes it reads DVDs well, so I really don’t understand :frowning: I don’t know what to do, if you have another idea I’m interested.
THANKS

It could be the laser. But as i wrote normally the disc drive than gives an ‘couldn’t read/recognize disc’ error and not ‘disk not compatible’, what implies a reading the disc but refusing to process the data.

yes that’s the problem and I really don’t understand I recovered a batch with the same error. None of the cards have been tampered with, at least it doesn’t appear so. I don’t know what to do :frowning:

so I’m coming back to give some info on what I discovered. After some tests I just noticed something. When you have a console with the error su-101213-8, this can mean 2 things: either that the reader’s sie chip is faulty, or more likely that the reader’s card is not the correct one. Obviously when we find ourselves with this error, at least it is my case, the reader does not take the discs. So I tested several other players until I found one that worked with my console. At least it takes the disks but gives me the error about “disk not compatible”. However what is surprising is that the update is possible!! Once done I read the bios and unfortunately there is no inversion between 2 and 3 I have exactly what is written a little above. So my conclusion is that if we find a compatible reader it can be exchanged only for the software update. But we are still left with the error of the subject. Probably because of the marriage between the 2 cards. If this conclusion can help find a way around this marriage…
If you have any comments, don’t hesitate.

The disc drive is not the original one, which came with the PS5?

That the update was possible with a not original disc drive and not showing the SU-101213-8 error… very interesting.

Any chance to get the original disc drive pcb back?

I don’t think there will be much research for a solution for remarrying, because the new slim and pro version have an changeable disc drive.

any chance to recover the original drive? I try but nothing is less certain. If I find it I will come and say so and I think he will read the discs :). Otherwise, I just retested with my reader in another console with the error su-101213-8, it has a card with the number 1 and the update still passed

ok I just read another post on the problem su-101312-8 that there were 2 voltages on the 4-pin connector: 12v and 5v. If I understood correctly, if the 5 v is not there it could be that this causes this error? For power supply or not this does not pose a problem, it seems to me that the information only passes through this ribbon cable on the other connector. so I ask myself questions. Could someone tell me where this 5v comes from?
THANKS

before the f5401 fuse of course, because on several cards I don’t have it!

F5401 5v source from F7501 area 1R5 inductor (5v_sub), and it is controlled by “BQxxx” (Si3493DDV) P-channel mosfet to turn on or not.

great thank you very much jkyoho.
I’m going to look at it this evening, indeed I have 12v input at the f7501, but nothing on the 1r5. It seems to me that there are 2 mosfets before the 1r5 probably they are messing up. If anyone has the ref I’m interested
THANKS

5v_sub from 1R5 only present when console turns on. Not sure if you test it with extension cable or just bench supply 12v at initial stage.

ok if I understand correctly, the 5v is only present when the console is turned on. But is it always present or only in certain cases? For example only when you insert a CD? If this is the case why some readers work and others don’t. I’m going to do some tests this evening and try to understand this 5v.
